Coach Kathy…
“Thank you so much for coaching me to a successful race @IMAZ. I overshot my time goal by a healthy margin, and as importantly, I felt great throughout. I know much of this was a result of being properly trained and prepared, and I credit you for setting me up as wall as you did. I look forward to working with you again in 2012…”

Coach Allen…
“This year marks my 5th season of triathlon training with Coach Allen. While Coach Allen and I have never met in person, Coach Allen has always been responsive to any phone calls, emails and last minute scheduling training. I was a beginning triathlete but on this journey of fitness, Coach Allen has been there to inspire and push me to new distances and challenges. If you are disciplined enough to not need a coach to watch you every step of the way, Coach Allen is an excellent choice for your tri coach.”

Coach Sydney…
“I feel so fortunate to have Sydney Cornell as my coach. I knew Sydney first as a spin teacher at Lifetime Fitness in Parker. I attended her class as often as I could because I enjoyed the way Sydney inspires us to bring everything that we have to our workout. In other words, Sydney doesn’t let anyone give up on themselves.
It took me some time to decide whether or not I would hire a coach. I enjoy working out and do not need someone to hold me accountable to checking off the training to-do list. I had the misperception that only people who needed someone to hold them accountable to doing the work would benefit from a coach.
However, I was also considering doing my first long distance triathlon and had never even done a mini tri before. When I learned that Sydney was also a coach, I asked her to meet with me to explore taking me on as a client to help me get ready for what would be a significant challenge. In our first meeting, I knew that I wanted to work with her. She gave me confidence that I could not only finish a half-iron tri, but that she could help me meet my other goals, such as improving my running speed.
Over the course of the next four months of training, Sydney was a constant source of inspiration and support. Inspiration because, she’s a first-rate triathlon in her own right. She lives and breathes triathlon and her enthusiasm for the sport is infectious. What I might love most about working with Sydney is that she walks the talk—she is a workhorse and admits when she achieves less than what she knows that she’s capable of, which isn’t very often because of her fierce determination. Her sensitivity about how much to push athletes so they continue to have success, while simultaneously raising the bar so they remain challenged is an instinct that Sydney has in spades.
As a newbie triathlete wannabe, I had tons of questions. Sydney walked me through everything from how to set up my transition area, to how to sight in open water. Throughout the training season, she gave me feedback on my form so I could make steady improvements.
Sydney was also there for me through dark times, like an ankle injury that left me questioning whether I’d be able to accomplish my goal. Sydney took the injury seriously and redesigned my plan so that I could rest my ankle. Without having Sydney there to help me feel confident that I could keep training successfully, I’m not sure that I’d have been able to experience the huge sense of accomplishment that came when I crossed the finish line. Sydney deserves part of that credit. Not only did I have a great race, I’m ready to work towards my first Ironman. It will be an honor to have Sydney coaching me through this next challenge.”

Coach Matt…
“When I first came to triathlons my training was unfocused and not very effective. I started working with Coach Matt and the first thing he did was get to know my goals but also my family and work obligations. He crafted a training schedule that was challenging without disregarding other aspects of my life. As the season progressed he continually reassessed the training he was prescribing to tailor it to changing schedules as well as improved performance. The racing season turned out to be far more successful than I thought possible. I set personal bests in every distance and at almost every race. Throughout the season Matt offered support and insight that one gains through many years of experience. Ultimately the 2011 season turned out to be my most successful year ever. Although I was the one racing, I owe most of to Matt and Mile High Multisport for their support and expertise throughout the year. Coach Brian…
“Get ready for a new level of triathlon achievements and success! Brian is great and I would use adjectives like calm, cheerful, pleasant, respectful, focused and driven to describe him.
I live in Texas and hired Brian a week before he moved to Denver. Brian is always available to me – and I don’t consider myself an easy client. Brian had to address many challenges with me – mental and physical. I started training late August (less than 90 days out from the race). On August 26th, I fell on my mountain bike got 14 stitches and was unable to do any training for 12 days and after that only swam and lightly biked on my trainer for about 10 days. In late September I was able to put in a solid week of training but began to get a shin splint and some achilles tendonitis. My training into late october was mostly on the trainer with some walks and swimming mixed in. At the end of October I got in my longest training run of 10.58 miles. The marathon was on November 6th and I didn’t know what to expect. I had done NYC last year at 5hrs 59min and San Antonio the year before 5hrs 42min. I was hoping to improve but didn’t know how my body was going to respond. Brian gave me strict instructions on pace, HR, nutrition and fluids – and I followed them. Ran NYC at 5hrs 7min – 11:45 mile pace! That was 2 minutes per mile faster than last year! My splits were within seconds of each other and all my friends were texting how strong and consistent my pace was….I didn’t plan it that way but apparently Brian did
On my way home from the marathon, I was speaking with a friend, who also happens to be a coach, about the race and told him I didn’t know going longer distances could feel great and be so consistent. My friend said, “that is a sign of being well coached”. I am continuing under Brian’s coaching guidance for St Croix half ironman in may2012. I have not even done an olympic and never considered the longer races because I didn’t want to suffer. However, after the marathon I felt great and realized with a good coach you can be much better prepared to attack the longer distances.”… Johnan Ratliff, Lewisville, TX
Coach Pete …
“Thank you Peter. I couldn’t have asked for harder conditions especially given the way my body hates heat since treatment. I also had a flat and chain came off 3 times. I welcomed the rest with the chain. The run was my typical 90+ run this year – I didn’t get through one of them all year.
But… I’m proud. And got emotional 3 different times at thinking about the last year and all the trials and tribulations and support and love from friends and family. Given radiation and chemo 8 months ago, today was a personal best that I will cherish! Thank you Pete!”
… Doug Beeman.. Cancer Survivor 2011 and 2011 Western Australia Ironman Finisher
Coach Max…
“You have been an extraordinary coach from the start. You listened to my goals so carefully and created a training schedule that not only challenged me, but worked with the demands of my teaching career. I so enjoyed the times you ran with me! It was not only motivating, but also brought me back to the joy of running in its own right. Thank you for bringing me to the finish line of my first triathlon, and for trekking out to the race to cheer me on! And more than anything, thank you for your incredible support during the difficult time of my injury. I knew that I was prepared to run that marathon, but I also believe that you helped me to see that finishing the race is much less important than taking care of your body. This was the first time I have truly come to understand the concept, and I believe it was a different level of achievement to let go of my pride and listen to what my body was telling me. I know, at a deep level, that I could not have made the decision to stop without knowing that you would support it, understand it, and help me through it. Thank you for all that you have done for me, and I can’t wait to get started again!”

Coach Sydney…
At the age of 53, I have completed my first season of Triathlon and with Sydney Cornell as my coach. It is with great enthusiasm that I am beginning another season of training with Sydney as my coach and mentor.
I began my first season lacking any knowledge of what Triathlon training entailed and most of all lacked any type of confidence. Sydney took the time to set me up on the right training program and convinced me that I was quite capable of not only finishing a race but to actually “compete” in a race. Sure enough, once I got through my first race I realized my times were so much better than I could have imagined. As my training progressed, so did my confidence. Sydney has always known what I was capable of but she knew I needed to prove it to myself.
I appreciate every thing she has done for me and know that I can expect an even better season in 2012. I will begin training with Sydney again in January and plan to race in my first Ironman 70.3 in August (yep that’s right!).
I am grateful to Sydney for her incredible encouragement and energy. She believes in her athletes and is an incredible athlete as well. I highly recommend Sydney Cornell whether you are considering racing or just looking to meet your personal goals. You won’t find a better and more caring coach.

Coach Pete…
“Just wanted to touch base now that I am feeling human again
. Thanks so much for being at the race, all the fun leading up to the race was great, but really your impact was on the bridge. When I think of some of the high’s and lows of the day-they occurred on the that bridge. The first loop was great, me making fun of you and the jacket, the second loop with the lip balm and the third and final time I saw you there I felt like I was on my 5 mile death march. I didn’t expect to see you each time, and with every interaction I was so glad you were there with your humor, encouragement & smile.
I’m so glad I did another, and choose Arizona to do it. The whole day was so nostalgic for me-the last time I was there with my Mom, Sean and his parents was the day we graduated from college. Sunday was such a pleasant reminder of all the good that has happened in my life in the last 17 years since our college graduation & it was a really cool feeling of how the circle of life works.
I was a little disappointed in my time at first, now that its been a couple of days, I realize that I really did try my hardest that day and that was what I was looking to do- I know I couldn’t have done it better. The irony of the swim was that I actually did enjoy that long time in the lake and despite being crawled over what felt like 500x never did I panic or want to turn and go back-that alone shows my maturity in the water-I may have not improved in my time, but in my head swimming is a much nicer experience.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, just wanted to let you know how thankful I am for you to have seen me through another Ironman and more importantly I am thankful for the cool friendship we have developed over the last 2 years. It was exactly 2 years go today that we met at Panera, I only remember because I was rushing home to brine my Turkey. Have a great holiday with your family!”

Sydney…
“After completing my first Triathlon I realized I needed some help. I decided to work with Sydney Cornell, and I am very happy I chose her for a coach. After working with Sydney for only seven weeks I attempted my second Tri. I was able to improve my overall time by 17 minutes and knocked 9 minutes off my 10 K run time. Six weeks later I completed my first ½ Ironman. This was a feat I would not have attempted without Sydney. She gave me the confidence to take it on in my first season. Sydney takes the time to breakdown all aspects of the sport. Not just the swimming, biking and running, but she teaches you the importance of nutrition, rest, and how to listen to your body. Sydney encourages weekly feedback on your training, so she can learn you and keep your training right for you.”

Coach Justin…
“In my first Triathlon, you were there when I came out of the water, you encouraged me through the transition and you were there at the end of my run and YOU WEREN’T EVEN MY COACH THEN! I will never forget that. Now that you are my coach I have seen a real improvement in all of the disciplines involved in Triathlon. I am much stronger and am going farther. You keep me on track , provide me with the encouragement I need to keep going and you take the time to answer all my crazy questions. My plans for my next races have gone beyond anything I could have do on my own and I have you to thank for that!”
…Kathy Van Houten
Coach Pete…
“Pete, I must thank you many times over. The Ironman is one of the toughest one-day endurance feats a personal can do. However, to finish the Ironman means more than showing up on a particular day to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run a marathon. A real Ironman is fashioned in the early morning swims, the late night runs, and the long grueling days of forming that bond between man and bike – Pete reminded me of this. When I decided to take that leap of faith to join the ranks of “Ironman”, I had finished one sprint and one Olympic distance race. This is where Pete Alfino stepped into the picture. Pete took me under his wing and taught me the necessary aspects of triathlon training. From how to train with a heart rate monitor and what to eat before, during, and after training days, to fixing a flat (something I had sadly never done before), Pete carried me through the entire experience. He provided me with every necessary tool to finish 2008 Ironman Wisconsin in 12:45 and was there to encourage me across that finish line (something I will never forget). Between his training program, personal guidance, and dedication to my success, Pete did it all. There is no possible way I could have heard Mike Reilly tell me that I “am an Ironman” without Pete Alfino. Thanks Pete… I can’t wait for another!”

Coach Kathy…
“First off, thanks for everything. I had one of the most amazing experiences of my life at the Ironman Coeur d’Alene in 2008. Having never done more than a duathlon in my life, first off, thanks for even taking the time to train me. Looking back on the experience, there is absolutely no way that I would have been able to prepare myself for this race like I did with your guidance. The routes you chose for me to ride, the distances for the runs, and all the swimming you had me do made me feel like an Ironman before the race even started. Thanks again, and look forward to working with you on my 2nd Ironman (hopefully soon).”
…Sean Reilly
Coach Sydney…
“I wanted to take just a minute and express to you my gratitude for all you’ve done for me over the past year. I remember when we first met, and I wanted to do an Ironman race, but had no idea how, you put me right at ease. The smartest move I’ve made, was hiring you as a coach. Without a question, you were able to prepare me mentally and physically for that difficult task of racing for 140.6 miles, not to mention the sprint, Olympic, and ½ Ironman races. What amazed me most about your ability to coach, was your ability to ask and watch how my training was going and then continue to customize my workouts to best facilitate consistent improvement. Your constant inquires into how I was feeling and feedback as to how I should be feeling throughout the year ensured I wasn’t “overtraining” or under-training. I also loved the fact that when I would call you, frustrated with my swim, run, or bike, that you would take the time to have one on one coaching time, aiding me with my form and extinguishing my frustrations. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank you for being at my first triathlon and my first full Ironman. Having you there, cheering me on, and giving me words of encouragement made all the difference in the world. You are, without a doubt, an invaluable tool to anyone wanting to race triathlons, from the first timer to the seasoned veteran, I would highly recommend your services to anyone.
On a side note, your coaching was awesome, but I must say, I also enjoyed all the money you saved me. I love the fact that you and Mile High Multisport take the time to work out deals with different vendors to get your athletes discounts. Let’s face it, equipment can get pricey for triathlons. It’s been wonderful having you as a coach, saving me hundreds and hundreds of dollars on all the stuff needed to compete. Thanks again!”
…Sean Searle
Coach Pete and Julia…
“Thanks so much for the pictures and your great coaching Pete! David said on the way home from the race that he wants to do the next race…he’s already planning his training schedule. You’ve really excited him about this sport!
Thanks again to you and Julia for making this such a great experience for David!”

Coach Sydney…
“As a coach, Sydney has pushed me farther than I thought I was capable of. She has coached me in everything from sprint triathlons to half-ironman distance triathlons and has known exactly what I needed to do to achieve my goals. Sydney combines her in-depth knowledge of the sport of triathlon, nutrition and racing experience to provide her athletes with the total coaching package!”
…Roxanne Monteith
Coach Sydney…
“Sydney was instrumental in helping me complete my first Ironman. She is very attentive and goes out of her way to make sure we are always on the same page. I have seen dramatic improvement since working with her. My HIM time went from 6:00:00 to 5:11:00 in one year. She was exactly what I wanted and needed and I hope to continue working with her for a very long time. I trust her completely.”

“I have been coached by Kathy and Pete for the past 5 years and I couldn’t be happier with my results. Every season, at every race, I have gotten a personal best!! Each year I think I can’t possibly improve further yet I have. They really know how to create a schedule which works for me and I have three small children and a job”.

Coach Pete…
“Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, for an amazing season! There were a lot of external factors that went into my PR at Ironman Wisconsin this year, and none of them were more impactful than having you as my coach.
This was my fourth Ironman and I am truly amazed at the sheer volume of stuff you taught me. Your support with my nutrition, gear, and focus was two or three notches higher than anything I received in the past. The most valuable part of the entire season, however, was the training schedule that you created and frequently modified throughout the season. Your attention and understanding to my specific schedule, strengths and areas to improve was so far superior to a generic schedule that there isn’t any way to compare the two.
I also loved being able to pick up the phone and call you to talk about any situation that was going on at any time. Your enthusiasm for the sport and for my success was very evident in each of our conversations.
I wish you all the best and hope to have the opportunity to work with you again. Be Free!”

“I did want to get a little sappy and say thanks for everything. You made a bigger impact in my life than you know. I don’t know why I got into triathlon – a challenge I guess – but regardless of the sport you inspired me to take a harder look at myself; from every angle. My life has been filled with lots of alcohol and self pity. I created problems for myself and was good at rationalizing why it was OK to be a flake. I needed something to help turn that around and sports seemed like the only answer, at the time. I met you when I was in a very weird place and I apologize if I was a babbling idiot most of the time – because I was.
I was doing a writing assignment and the question was, “If you were an author, name 5 people from your life you would place on your dedication page and why”. You were one of the 5. (Now this is sounding like a cheesy Hallmark card) Anyway – this past year I trained on my own (and my races showed it) but it really helped me think about so much. You and everyone I have met through the sport have helped me realize that there is no place for cry babies. You, Kat hy and other have such amazing dedication and focus. I wanted to know what that feels like.
So – long story short – thanks. You are still in my head when I’m in the pool or on the road. I think about all the people who got the ‘that’s what it takes’ award and why. So I am trying to make changes for the better. It was fun racing with you on the field. It always made me feel a little better when I knew you were out there.”

Pete…
“I don’t know if I can put into words the amount of personal satisfaction I have felt since I crossed that finish line. I never expected to feel so happy, relieved & peaceful – it’s like something I was missing deep inside has been fulfilled – what an amazing feeling.
You were not only a motivation & inspiration – but a nice & steady voice of reason to me this last 6 months & all 15:20 on race day.
Thank you for your time, your knowledge & your consistent faith in me – it made all the difference in the world.”
…Courtney Ring, IMCDA 2007, Ironman Arizona 2009
Coach Pete…
“What can I say. A chance meeting at IM Canada in 2005, remote coaching by internet & e-mail. I have found it easy to put my faith in his training program and to trust his experience. Although we’ve only met on 3 fairly brief and busy occasions I feel as though we know each other well. He is like a family friend who is here in the house with us. When I have questions I get responses as fast as if he is always sitting at his computer. In the depths if last winter when things fell apart at work it would have been easy to stop training. If I didn’t have Pete’s guidance I wouldn’t have known what to do. I just did whatever he prescribed for the day, put one foot in front of another and got through it, in a bit of a daze, without having to think about it too much.”
…Jenny Thorpe, Alberta, Canada, IMCDA finisher 2007
Coach Pete…
“As a 13 year veteran of the sport and a mother of two very small children, I decided to hire Pete as my coach immediately after signing up for Ironman Arizona. I have never had anyone coach me in the past, mostly because I thought I knew exactly what to do on my own. Even with my experience, having Pete develop a training plan that worked for me was the best thing I could’ve done, I really needed the structure to work around babies and a job. I have always put so much pressure on myself and there wasn’t one time I felt pressure from Pete, as there were quite a few times I was really sleep deprived with sick children and had to modify the workouts. He remained extremely positive, even when I doubted myself a few times, and needless to say, I finished with a smile on my face and feeling great! Pete and Kathy also traveled to Arizona to watch their athletes compete so it was great to have them cheering me on during the race! I wouldn’t even dream of racing another Ironman without Pete as my coach, plus he also has a very good sense of humor!”

“I just have to thank you for being such an awesome coach; and friend. I was such a know-it-all novice when I first met you and you helped me grow not only as an athlete, but as a person. I learned a lot about myself; what I am capable of and how strong I can actually be with a lot of discipline, consistency and determination. Working with you and Mile High Multisport has been a great experience. There is no better feeling than crossing a finish line and you were at the end of many races – full of support no matter how I did. You helped me narrow down my strengths and weaknesses and then gave me a diligent plan to follow to gain strength in all disciplines. I can’t believe I actually cut my swim times nearly in half! The end of the season leaves me grateful that I realized I can’t do it all on my own and thankful that I found you and Mile High Multisport to help me get focused on my goals and a plan to make it happen.”

“Thank you coach Pete for helping me understand the mental edge of racing this year. You have helped me both physically and mentally and from this training I have PR’d at the Ft. Collins marathon, PR’d at the Racine ½ IM (with a time I never imagined) and completed IM Wisconsin in the cold, wind, and rain. You kept me going in Wisconsin by encouragement and being out on the course all day and supporting everyone to just finish the race… get it done. Relax… Focus… Breathe, this is what I think to myself when I am having a hard training day or race… thank you for everything and I am looking forward to an excellent 2007!”
