Coach Mike Vetowich

Coach Veto resides in Parker, Colorado and has been involved in multisport for five years. Originally from the Detroit area, Veto grew up a runner, participating in track and cross country in high school with a PR of 16:26 for 5000m. Veto ran countless road races in his twenties and early thirties, and he and his family moved to Colorado in 2000. A close friend was a biker, so he convinced Veto to participate in a duathlon. After finishing the opening 5k run among the top ten, he was passed by virtually every participant on the bike, not realizing a poorly tuned mountain bike with knobby tires was sub optimal for road duathlons. He passed many back on the finishing 5k, but, more importantly, he had caught the multisport bug and soon had a road bike in his stable.

He continued to dabble a little in duathlons, but didn’t try his first triathlon until 5 years later on a whim. A period of inactivity had seen him balloon to 220lbs, and the sprint triathlon changed his life. From there things took off. He went from couch to an Ironman in 18 months. Along the way, he realized he really enjoyed sharing the benefits of triathlon with others and began to think about coaching. Always an avid reader, Veto thought sharing the knowledge he had acquired would be very gratifying. His own athletic development continued, and Veto was named an Honorable Mention Age Group All-American for 2011.

Veto hopes to continue to grow as an athlete and coach and loves working with his athletes. Seeing them achieve their goals is as gratifying as any race he has finished.
