Miscellaneous thoughts and comments
- Consistency yields results. A poorly written plan followed consistently gets better results than a well written plan not followed.
- Triathlons are hard. Your body will ache. Learn to differentiate between an ache and an injury. In other words... Get Tough.
- Perpetum and Endurox Rx4 are life savers.
- If you want to be at the top of your age group you need to make sacrifices and work hard. It will hurt. You will need to learn to suffer in a race.
- Learn to swim efficiently.
- Form is more important than distance. Always think about form.
- Race your race and forget about everyone else.
- Stop worrying about things you have no control over.
- The goal of the Ironman is to just finish... The end.
- Don’t talk about qualifying for Kona.
- There is nothing fast about an Ironman.
- There is always someone faster than you.
- Biking up hill makes you stronger. Always seek out and ride steep hills.
- If you want to be a better runner, biker and swimmer then run, bike and swim more.
- Proper nutrition and rest are keys to success. Always stay on top of your nutrition before, during and after exercise.
- Thank your spouse for supporting you and allowing you to follow your dreams.
- Cat naps for 20 minutes are good.
- Don’t talk about what you should have done. The time to do your talking is between the beginning of the race and when you cross the line.
- There are a lot of triathletes out there who talk a fast game.
- Stop telling me what you are going to do and just do it.
- This isn’t your profession, it is your recreation, enjoy it.
- Stretch when ever you can.
- Weights and especially core work are important if you want to get faster.
- Triathletes are great role models for kids.
- I’ve solved a lot of problems in my mind while running/biking and swimming.
- The Ironman defines who you are as a person. When things don’t go as planned will you quit or forge ahead?
- You don’t find time YOU MAKE IT.
